Final stats from Spring Market

The Beatles…Little Richard…James Brown…the Everly Brothers…even Sammy Davis Jr. have all sang about “goin’ to Kansas City” over the years. Add a plethora of patchwork lovers who descended upon the town famous for jazz, barbecue, and its multitude of fountains for the 2012 spring International Quilt Market.

A total of 3,311 attendees came to the show at “the City of Fountains” (a 10% increase over last spring), and 1,807 took classes or business seminars (a 5% increase). Spring Market was previously held in the city in 2002 and 2005.

On the show floor, 554 exhibitors (52 of which were new to the show) took out 1,040 booths.

“I am happy that these numbers are good, and I feel that they are reflective of the overall health of the industry,” says Market founder and director emeritus Karey Bresenhan. “And I was excited to see the amount and scope of new products that will soon be available to quilters. As a former shopowner myself, it almost made me want to get back in the business!”

Quilt Market is the only trade show for the quilting and soft crafts industry, where shopowners, teachers, designers, and authors gather to see the latest tools, patterns, books, and lines of fabric from manufacturers and businesses around the the world.

The next edition of Market will take place October 27-29 (with classes beginning on October 26) at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
