200. A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS MYSTERY QUILT (Progressive Class 2 of 3)  *$188

Caffrey-Batey’s mysteries are well-known to produce stunning results. With a 100% pre-cut kit, classtime is full speed ahead with fun and enjoyment along the way! Photo is representative of a previous Progressive project. Fabrics and design will vary. Progressive Class—this class may be taken singularly or in conjunction with Charlotte Angotti’s #100 on Thursday and/or Karen K. Stone’s #301 on Saturday. You may enroll for one, two, or three.

201. ENGLISH PAPER PIECING BY MACHINE  *$90

Do you love but avoid the traditional One Patch? Handwork is wonderful, but let's explore an innovative alternative technique, useful for any EPP pattern, without compromising the integrity of the original. Begin with hexagons, then move quickly to a Sunburst Star. You'll enjoy having this in your bag of tricks! No sewing machines used in this class.

202. SNIPPET SENSATIONS LANDSCAPES  $85

You too can be an artist—with fabric. Work on your own individual, simplistic, or complex, fusible web landscape quilt top. As the creator of the Snippet Sensations technique, Walter knows how to make it easy. She includes a trunk show of her Snippet projects and covers the steps of turning a snippet top into a quilt. Don't let background work become an afterthought—the
right filler can completely transform your quilts. All confident beginners/early intermediate quilters can learn interesting textures and fills using freehand and grid-based techniques. Leave boring meandering behind and take your quilts up

204. MYSTICAL FLORALS, LEAVES, AND VINES—LONGARM HANDS-ON  *$119

Quilters can find as much diversity in surface quilting with florals as with feathers. Explore floral, leaf, and vine variations that will make your quilts take root in creativity. Learn a myriad of designs using these elements for your customer and personal quilting and apply them to edge-to-edge, custom blocks, border, and sash designs. Suitable for all levels of longarm, midarm, shortarm or hand quilters.

205. LET ME SURPRISE YOU! JUST A LITTLE BIT  *$114

Don't you just love a mystery? Come sew for three hours on this small mystery project and learn how wonderful sewing a laser kit can be. No hints on color or pattern but we are sure you will have a great time. All the pieces are cut for you, so no need to lug other supplies. Just come, enjoy, and create! Photo is representative only. Fabrics and design will vary. If you have taken another class with Angotti in the past, please bring Show & Tell of what was made in that class.

207. COLORING YOUR FABRIC WITH PAINTSTIKS  *$65

Create the fabric of your dreams—from bold graphics, subtle batiks, and more in this fun, fast-moving overview of Paintstik techniques. No artistic training is needed. Bring a willingness to play and create a series of samples illustrating a variety of techniques for your own reference and inspiration. Enjoy the benefits of adding texture and color to fabric while improving well-being at the same time.

CLASS FEE - $45 + MAT FEE - $20 = $65

 

SUPPLIES—  wear apron or old clothes; ¾in or 1in wide masking or blue painter's tape. Fabric: eight 12in to 14in pre-washed cotton, silk, or synthetic fabric sqs—at least six sqs need to be dk color and two light color—solid, hand-dyed, or subtle tone-on-tone.

Easily create an elegant looking finished piece using a few lines, a couple of templates, and a little imagination. Any confident beginner can do it. Receive step-by-step instructions and be amazed at how simple this seemingly complex work actually is when you break it down into baby steps!

Join Wallen as he demonstrates his favorite rulers. From basic to more specific applications, learn how to put those handy tools to work and save time. This class applies to all levels of longarm, midarm, shortarm, and home machine users.

210. MACHINE QUILTING FOR SCAREDY CATS  *$64

We all have them—those quilt tops waiting to be quilted but we just don't know where to start. Whether you're just curious to try machine quilting for the first time or would like to improve on previous attempts, this is the perfect class for you. The class has very simple instructions that anyone can understand, lots of tips, and a fun way to relax and try machine quilting.

211. RANDOMLY PIECED BACKGROUND  *$69

Struggling to find just the right background fabric for your beautiful quilt? Are the colors, values, and textures just not working? Learn to "mix" fabrics to create a smooth, flawless background. Discuss fabric selection and how to change value and colors smoothly as you plan future backgrounds that are dynamic and showcase focal points. Enjoy this background piecing process with no points that meet in the background. Practice with perfectly blended fabrics provided in the kit.

SUPPLIES—neutral sewing thread; scissors (fabric cutting); scissors (paper cutting); pins; eraser; mechanical pencil; paper, pen, & pencil; note/sketch paper; sm trash bag; rotary cutter (med); rotary cutting mat (12in x 18in); rotary cutting ruler (min 18in); seam ripper; few sheets of 12in sq paper to draw the pattern (regular 8.5in x 11in pages will do fine but bring Scotch tape or masking tape to tape pages together for size).

 

 

 

212. TANGLING WITH THE ART OF NOTAN  *$60

Add unique details to your artwork, no matter your preferred medium. Draw beautiful designs with the fun and easy art of Zentangle® on paper and fabric. Explore and create with the principles of the ancient Japanese Art of Notan. Then combine both art forms to make an unusual design on paper that can easily be adapted to fabric as well.

6 PM-8:30 PM

 

 

215. IRON QUILTER CHALLENGE     $20

Watch in amazement as three teams of teachers/quilters (led by Charlotte Angotti, Debbie Caffrey-Batey, and Karen K. Stone) face off to create the best small quilt tops imaginable in just two hours!

The scraps will fly and the sewing machines will whir as you enjoy an evening of chaotic creativity, teamwork, and cheerleading right up until the final buzzer.

Given a different collection of 14 fabrics for each team, the teams will be feverishly designing and working to win your vote in the 4th Annual Iron Quilter Challenge/Chicago!

Come join the fun and participate in the audience Show & Tell (a project from your classes or a project you’ve completed recently) while our emcees/referees keep things stirred up with two roving mikes to talk with the Challenge participants.

Stop off at the complimentary snacks table and the cash bar, enjoy the audience Mix and Mingle, and check out the door prizes galore! Top prize for the night will be a BERNINA sewing machine!

Door prizes and equipment donated by many of the exhibitors. The quilt tops will be included in a silent auction in Special Exhibits at the fall 2018 Quilt Festival in Houston to benefit the Texas Quilt Museum.
