THE OFFICIAL WEBCAST OF
THE
2008 INTERNATIONAL QUILT FESTIVAL/CHICAGO!
Welcome to a “virtual tour” of our annual show! Each spring in Chicago, International Quilt Festival draws more than 20,000 quilt artists and aficionados from all parts of the world. We hope that you’ll be able to share some of the excitement of Festival from your own computer with this exclusive webcast.
New this year—we will be posting short video clips shortly after the show featuring some of our special exhibits and activities on the show floor. And continuing from last year, we’ll be taking photos during the show and posting them online the next day in the “Classes” and “On the Show Floor” sections.
We’re happy that you’ll be joining us as we grow this webcast and provide the best coverage of the show for our visitors—both on-site and “online”—from all over the world!
Festival Director Karey Bresenhan
Dear “virtual” attendees,
Welcome to International Quilt Festival/Chicago! It really is hard to believe that this is our sixth annual show here at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. My staff and I have been very much heartened by the reception that the show has received over these years from both the city of Rosemont and from you, the quilters and quilt lovers who have come from all over the world to share in our spring Festival.
And while most of you come mainly to shop the terrific booths and see the gorgeous quilts and wearable art garments on display in the special exhibits area, don’t forget that there is a whole other experience in the adjacent conference center and on the show floor—our exciting Quiltmaking Academy!
Here at Festival, we have dozens of the finest faculty members in the industry teaching more than 100 classes on everything from beginning hand piecing, hand quilting, and appliqué to microwave fabric dyeing, embroidery, and digital design. Many of you have already pre-enrolled for classes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sign up on-site. Check the enrollment desk in the conference center lobby to see what classes are still open and about pricing.
Festival also offers many stand-alone lectures that last just an hour. You can pay for them right at the door with no sign-up and get educated and entertained on a topic while taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the show floor.
And finally, you don’t even have to leave the show floor to take part in the educational offerings at Festival’s “Make It and Take It” mini-classes and workshops in the “Make It University!™” area. No pre-enrollment or special supplies are ever needed! There are also free teacher demonstrations and an informal modeling session of the Bernina Fashion Show garments to further enhance your QIQ (that’s Quilt I.Q. to you!).
So enjoy all of the wonderful things there are to love about Festival. And I hope to see many of you in Long Beach, California, this year for the debut of our summer edition of Festival, July 25-27 (with classes beginning July 24) at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center. Bathing suits optional!
Have a great show!
