JOB DESCRIPTIONS
HANGING QUILTS FOR THE QUILT SHOW
To be a hanger, you should be able to climb a ladder (you will not climb more than 3 steps up) and to be on your feet for long periods of time. This is a physically demanding job. If you are unable to do it, please do not sign-up for this position.
NEW PRODUCT GUARD
During Market, new products make their debut. You will be among the first to see this new merchandise. Your job will be to watch over the items on display so that they do not “walk off.” I prefer to have the same people to watch over them daily. You will be able to take a sitting break but you will need to be alert at all time!
QUILT GUARDIANS
To be a guardian you will be on your feet for 4 or more hours. If you are unable to fill this requirement, please do not sign up for this position. You will be allowed bathroom breaks during your shift. If you need a break, find another guardian to watch your area and theirs until you get back.
TOUR GUIDES
During Festival we have groups of children that come to see our show. We need experienced people to show them around and to the different activities we have for them to be involved in. I will need people who have been to our show before and that has knowledge of the different activities available.
PROGRAM SELLERS
To help relieve the T-shirt booth, program sellers will be stationed close to each of the doors. The programs are sold for $1 and you will be responsible for the money and programs. It is important for you to keep your wits about you, especially Wednesday night and morning shifts as this is the high volume time. You may get a desk to be stationed by but you are asked to be alert and mobile.
BERNINA FASHION SHOW MODEL DRESSERS
Get up close and personal with the garments of the Bernina Fashion Show. You will be behind the scenes dressing and undressing the models for the Bernina Fashion Show. There are two shows, one during Market on Sunday, Oct. 26th and one during Festival Thursday, Oct. 30th. This is a very fast paced position! I will also schedule 2 alternates just in case someone gets sick or has to back out.
COMMEMORATIVE BOOTH DUTIES
This is an exciting position as our wares and memorabilia are very popular with attendees. This is a very fast-paced position during Festival. You may work in this booth if you have worked it in the past or you work in the retail industry. Experienced workers only.
BAG CHECK
For the convenience of the customers, we have a place for them to check in their purchases so they don’t have to carry it around all day. It will be located behind the main commemorative booth. You will need to be an organized person to keep track of the baggage. I prefer to use the same people daily in this booth.
DOOR PEOPLE
This is an exciting position as you are at the entrance to the world's largest annual quilt show. The pace is often fast—particularly preview night and morning shifts. During lunchtime, as people leave to go to lunch, it will get busy. You will have a chance to sit for a spell after the lunch crowd dwindles and during the evening shift.
DOOR PEOPLE at the FOOD COURT
We also use door people at the entrances of the food court. You are only to allow exhibitors out of the food court area with food and drinks and they MUST be covered. Attendees can have bottled drinks but they must be capped and put away before they leave the area. If you are at Main Street (the double aisle with red carpet) you may have limited opportunity to sit unless it is the very beginning of the day or the end. If you are working the 1st shift of the day most of you will work at the front doors until the crowd rush has come in. Then you will proceed to your position.
DOOR PEOPLE at the DEAD DOORS
We have breakaway doors that people can go out but they can not come back in. These don’t always close and lock automatically, so they need to be watched. This is a sitting position.
On Sunday of Festival, takedown begins as soon as the area is secure and taped off after the show closes at 5 p.m. You will be put into groups and given assignments by the staff and Piece Corps.
