2008 FALL INTERNATIONAL QUILT MARKET & FESTIVAL

 WORKER'S GUIDE

At the George R. Brown Convention Center
1001 Avenida de las Americas
Houston, Texas 77010

Quilt Market is Oct. 25-27 & Festival is Oct. 30-Nov. 2, with Preview Night Oct. 29

International Quilt Festival is one of Houston’s largest annual conventions and is preceded by the International Quilt Market. We are very pleased that you would like to work with us this year. We are always looking for good workers, and in return, you will be part of a special group of people who are proud of their contributions and are glad to see each other year after year.

The International Quilt Market is a trade show, not open to the public or to children. This is a place for quilt shop owners to purchase supplies for their stores. It is open on the first Saturday, Sunday and Monday on your schedule. If you are working during Market, you will not be eligible to shop the vendors after your shift, but you will be able to see the special exhibits. After a couple of "changeover" days, Festival begins and the crowds come. If you have never seen it, you are in for a big surprise and a wonderful treat. This event is half art show and half shopping spree, and that is only the ground floor. There are also bus tours, fashion shows, classes, special exhibits, award ceremonies, and other activities going on through out the week and into the weekend.

To run a show of this size we rely on people like you. We need people to help hang the quilts before Market, guards for the quilts during Market and Festival, doorpersons to take tickets, and help with takedown after the show is closed. We pay $6.55 an hour; parking reimbursement (up to $7-this is the cost to park per day for the lots on each side of the George R. Brown), and you receive free entry to the show for each day you work (a $10 value for Festival). This could also be a great fundraiser for your organization. You would still receive parking and free entry into the show. Your organization would receive the money that you earn. Please go to the Job Description page and see the different positions available. I have added a few positions. After you have read it, please go to the shifts available page and choose the shift/shifts you are interested in working.

YES! The show will go on! We have experienced some setbacks due to Hurricane Ike, but we will prevail! The office just got electricity back on September 24. Since I am getting this information out so late I would appreciate it if you could help me to pass the word around about “working the show.”  I will reply to your email ASAP so that you know that it was received. It will take 1-2 weeks for me to get through them, so please be patient. If I have any questions about what you have chosen I will give you a call if I have your phone number. Please do not call in your request unless your e-mail is not working. I prefer to have it on paper so that it can be printed. Thank you!
