BEST OF SHOW

Joy

(80” x 53”)

By Cole Whitaker

Design Source: Original Design

Artist’s Statement: This quilt was designed based on a picture that I took of a friend. I designed the quilt, pieced it, quilted it, and designed some of the fabrics that were included in it. I named the quilt Joy because that is what the picture embodies to me.”

Blue Wave

(56” x 72”)

By Betty Busb

Design Source: Original Design

Artist’s Statement: “I wanted to play with pure color, and used a technique I developed especially for this project—using rubbing alcohol with fabric paint. Each painted piece was cut out individually and appliquéd by machine. I created the diagonal blue lines to tie the piece together.”

Inner Cube

(70” x 84”)

By Jodi Murphy with Teresa Silva

Design Source: Original Design

Artist’s Statement: “English Paper Piecing is a way for me to express my love of geometry, color, architecture, and Tula Pink fabrics. I used the tumbling block to give the quilt dimension by repeating the placement of light, medium, and dark values throughout the quilt. I love using fabric to create secondary patterns: the rainbow effect from top to bottom, the diagonal lines of the black and white stars, and the rings of color created by each block.”

By Sharon Engel
