Start with some basic stencils—waves, feathers, scrolls, wreaths, etc. Then use their simple structure to create elaborate and beautiful free-motion quilting. The same unadorned lines can look totally different depending on the motifs that are added. Later we'll leave the stencils behind and go for unmitigated improvisation.
