RaNae Merrill—T-Shirt Quilts 1 Block at a Time
Someone has asked you to make a t-shirt quilt for them. The bag of shirts has been sitting there for a while and you're dreading it. You don't know where to start. Look at the process in a new way—instead of sewing all the shirts together, making a stretchy top that is difficult to quilt, quilt the T-shirts individually, before joining them. The process is easy and fun, and will save you money and your sanity! www.ranaemerrillquilts.com
Marla Senter Morris—Specialty Yarns from the Sewing Studio Lecture
Most fiber artists are multi-craftual—meaning knitters spin and weave, quilters knit and crochet, weavers spin and dye. This demo explores the sewing room as an option to create yarn. The scrap box is a great place to start with bits of fabric, thread, and ribbons. Marla has worked with textiles in various forms since childhood, including making trim. She uses her creativity to recreate specialty yarns she'd seen, and to create new ones she'd love to use. These yarns add texture and color to weaving, knitting, and sewing projects. A variety of techniques are used to create these yarns—and many will translate to enhanced sewing skills.
