Mary Koenig

Mary Koenig's presentation will highlight the history of the discovery of Aboriginal art from 1824 to the present. She will explain how art expresses individual and group identity and the relationship between people and the land. For instance, the Great Sandy Desert painting, painted by over 60,000 artists determined Native title rights to 76,000 square kilometers of land in the Kimberly region. Although Koenig's main focus will be on painting, she will also discuss textile art and women's contributions to this field.
