June Colburn—Designing a Signature CHOP
Asian artists and craftsmen have used a carved seal and vermilion ink to sign their work for centuries. For us it's an unexpected way to sign our textile work. See how anyone can create a design using their name, which can be machine- or hand-embroidered directly on work or on a separate fabric to attach to the work. The design could also be made into a silk screen in various sizes to be printed on new wearable art, quilts, and home decor accessories. An interesting way to design a business logo, too! The demo will show you how. www.junecolburn.com
Carling Mabry—Quilt-As-You-Go Without Bulky Seams
In this focused forum, Carling will share practical techniques for using Quilt-As-You-Go methods, especially when working with bulky seams and quilting on a domestic sewing machine without a longarm. Learn how to break a quilt into manageable sections, reduce bulk at seam intersections, and plan construction to keep layers smooth. She'll cover strategies that make quilting large or heavy pieces achievable at home. Perfect for quilters who want confident, professional results using the sewing machine they already have. www.carlinglovescats.com
Swan Sheridan—Creative Label Making
Don't know what to do with your quilt labels? Join in this awesome demo and find out how to make your quilt labels both informative and exciting with a variety of techniques. Michelle Trimble—Stunning Sunbursts
Curious about trying improv, but don't like the wonky vibe? Overwhelmed by all the options? Choosing constraints at the outset of an improv project can not only lower the decision-making burden that can seem overwhelming, it can also ensure your composition finishes with dramatic flair. In this demo, you will see options for making an improv block, and experiment with variables that will alter the look of each variation. Take home step-by-step instructions for this block so you can start your improv journey tomorrow! www.quiltingchemistry.com
